Intuit gives Start-up Businesses a chance in Seattle with the Just Start promo tour

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007 | Featured, Massage, Seattle Events

I learned last week that the makers of QuickBooks are launching a new software program designed to help out us entrepreneurs. To get the product going full steam ahead, Intuit has designed a contest where the winner will receive $50,000 worth of startup resources. Checkout Barry Hurd’s post on the conference, he’s a fellow biznik member that told me about this.

To promote their contest, Jumpup, a division of Intuit is on a road trip holding conferences and taping people as they speak of their plans, schemes and ideas. You can also visit www.iwilljuststart.com to enter online.

All you have to do is give them your business idea, they will judge your idea against thousands of others and whoever is deemed to have the best idea for the prize will win.

In Seattle, the location is the Westlake center and it’s going to be held for 2 days: October 24-25 from 11am to 6pm. Today is my day. I have recently come up with a vision of the massage freek future empire. It was an idea that was cooked up with the help of registered crazy-man and awesome independent entrepreneur, Allen Stern.

I do not even have a business plan for it but today; I will take my chances and present the idea in the raw form it is, having only since yesterday to flesh out the plan. Needless to say, my plan to grow the Massage Freek Empire is very bare bones right now, but it is only the day after.

I’ll be heading down to the conference somewhere around 3pm today. I hope that it is a good crowd and, indeed, not too crowded for I would like to step into the camera booth and present my big raw idea.

I will blog more about the master plan to make massage freek a household name. But I will give you these chicken scratches to start:
Education of the masses, the healing as well as pampering of the masses – catering to all incomes, the fair treatment, education, support and growth of the employees would be a central theme to the business model. Already, it looks like a volume business. I would have staff and clients turning over to make more room for new and uneducated clients and employees. The environment will be safe and relaxing and the massage treatments, menus and the layouts of the buildings will keep the demographic in mind.

One thing that irks me the most about the massage industry is how employees that administer massage are payed poorly, treated substandard and usually get all used up by the time they have been massaging for around or less than 2 years. I want to create a chain of massage locations where the employees learn, grow and eventually move on to do their own master plans, charge what they are worth and have the skills and professional grooming to back it all up. I want massage freek to be a launch pad for massage practitioners to get going with their ideas for private practice. I don’t want them to stay forever and get comfortable with a low wage.

I do not know if my business ideas will work. But I will flesh it out in the coming months and crunch the numbers when the time comes. Massage freek “the empire” will teach people the benefits of being a total freek about massage. Until then, I’m the only massage freek there is.

Eric Koszyk From Eric Koszyk. Wow! What can I say? Sierra is a truly gifted person and therapist. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about massage. It helps that she is extremely intuitive and a very caring human being. Her space on Broadway is very warm, comforting and inviting.

As a fellow massage therapist, I highly recommend her, especially if you are looking for extensive deep tissue work which she is amazing at. You will leave her place wiser; her treatments will change your life.

Joe Shirley From Joe Shirley I still remember the first massage I got from Sierra over six months ago. My neck was chronically bugging me, and my carpal tunnel thing was acting up. She asked my permission to go for it. I said yes. It hurt. She told me to trust her, and I did. And both my neck and wrist felt great afterwards. She went right through that crap and out the other side. Amazing.

Matt HansonFrom Matt Hanson Sierra is fantastic! I felt she was really attentive to the needs I expressed about my upper-back and shoulders. I was really impressed that she could identify other problems spots quickly and how they positively affected those areas that were bothering me most. I have had several massages and she has the strength and understanding to do a incredible job.

Dennis DildayFrom Dennis Dilday I’ve had close to a hundred massages from more than a dozen different therapists and I can say Sierra’s are unique and wonderful. She relates and interacts with the layers of facia in a way others can’t. While determined to get a response from the tissues, Sierra is also tuned into her patient and keeps the experience pleasant and interesting. Clinically, she’s both confident and competent.
